At the conclusion of the 2000/2001 season, we formed a joint team with the second year players from Vail and Aspen. These two teams had been bitter rivals all year long, so we weren't quite sure how this would work out! Vail had defeated Aspen in the Colorado State Championship game.
The team practices only one time and went to two tournaments, winning both. It was a great experience for everyone. The kids, and parents, became good friends. In subsequent years the friendship carried over to the ice. The kids still played as hard as they could against each other, but now they were "competitive friends", not "enemies".
